During the COVID-19 pandemic, Anxiety Canada came to us with the challenge of developing two animated web series that would normalize anxiety for young audiences. We had to cover a variety of mental health topics for kids in a way that was relatable, funny, educational, and all in 2-minute episodes.
After developing and focus-testing multiple ‘pilot’ episodes with consultation from child psychologist Dr. Daniel Chorney, we finally landed on our concepts. For pre-teen audiences, we created the character of Drexal the alien and his supercomputer sidekick. Brought to life by voice acting from Charlie Demers, Drexal’s anxiety is often exacerbated by his sense of isolation on a remote moon base. Luckily the computer is there to support Drexal and help talk him through issues.
